TERMS OF REFERENCE
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY COMMITTEE
PURPOSE
The Children’s Ministry Committee exists to bring the children and their families together in education, friendship, actions, prayer and service through Jesus Christ. 
MEMBERSHIP 
            Chair &/or Co-chair(s)
            Sunday School Superintendent (at least 2)
            Vacation Bible School Coordinator(s)
            Summer Sunday School Coordinator(s)
            Nursery Coordinator(s)
            Member(s) at large (1-2) 
RESPONSIBILITIES 
The committee responsibilities shall include and are not limited to the following: 
  • Demonstrate integrity with Christian values and principles.
  • Provide a Sunday school program at each Sunday morning church service.
  • Provide a nursery program at each Sunday morning service.
  • Provide a vacation bible school program  
  • Provide social events for the children and their parents to enhance effectiveness of the program i.e. Congregational Picnic, Advent Craft Night
  • Ensure that each teacher has the resources to teach the core and the curriculum (i.e. Whole People of God).
  • Perform needs assessments when necessary.
  • Evaluate all programming annually.
  • Keep, provide and report financial and other records to acceptable standards
  • Coordinate with other relevant groups and people as necessary to provide the program, resources and space necessary for effective functioning of church programming (i.e. Worship Committee, Finance Committee, Property Committee, Office Administrator, Ministry & Personnel Committee, Adult and Youth Ministries Committees)
  • Prepare for intergenerational services
  • Ensure that all personnel receive initial and ongoing training to carry out their functions effectively
  • Develop leadership skills of potential members of the committee to ensure that there is sufficient personnel to ensure that roles are filled and the collective memory is retained.
  • Recruit superintendent, vacation bible and nursery coordinators, and people for other leadership roles as required.
  • Be accountable to the Orleans United Church Council and provide a representative at each meeting and report on a regular basis. Provide a budget and annual report to council annually.
