TERMS OF REFERENCE
LONG RANGE PLANNING COMMITTEE
LONG RANGE PLANNING COMMITTEE
PURPOSE
On behalf of the congregation, the Long Range Planning Committee would:

undertake a ministry of research, study and thought in order to help Orleans United
-
Church to be as prepared as possible to respond faithfully to the needs of its
-
membership, the surrounding community and the world around us
MEMBERSHIP
-
Chair and Vice-Chair or Co-Chairs
-
Secretary
-
Members at large
RESPONSIBILITIES
To review the congregation's Mission Statement regularly and help the congregation to:
-
revise it from time to time, or even to formulate new statements of our sense of God's
-
call to us. Such revisions or re-statements would be brought to the congregation for discussion and approval
-
to prepare long-term plans for Council (e.g. 5 years) that will identify areas of possible progress in various Church activities, programs and organizations, and to
-
monitor progress of the plan by recommending to Council short range programs that will contribute to long range goals or objectives
To seek to anticipate:
-
demographic changes;
-
changing needs of the congregation and the community;
-
changing emphasis of the congregation's ministry;
-
the need to change or adapt the congregation's minstry of worship, pastoral care,
-
Christian development and outreach and social service
-
changes in staff -- ful-time and part-time, clergy and lay
LIAISON
Two representatives are to be members of the Council, one of them being the Chair or Co-Chair.
The Committee would be expected to consult with people in the congregation and the Orleans community as it carried out its on-going study.
It would share information with the Communications Committee as needed and report to the Annual Congregational Meeting.
